Common Mistakes by Internet Marketers

Author: admin Entrepreneurship, Internet Marketing

You might think that sounds crazy? You mean “Internet Marketers” make mistakes? Well the answer, in short, is absolutely YES they make mistakes. The fact is that marketing online is a business just like any other business, but the problem is many Internet Marketers treat it like a hobby which leads to many mistakes being made throughout the evolution of their business. Hey the fact is we all make mistakes! It’s perfectly fine as long as we learn from them… that’s called “learning the hard way”. My goal is to help you avoid these mistakes and take an easier road to success. So here are some common mistakes made by Internet Marketers every single day:

1. The whole “build it and they will come” idea –

You see that might have been the whole concept behind that Angels In The Outfield movie…. but it does not work when it comes to Internet Marketing. You simply can’t just throw up a website and expect since its on the World Wide Web that you’re going to just get pounded with traffic and sales. It just does not work that way. You have to learn marketing and apply what you have learned in order for people to find your website. There are many things you can do from SEO to PPV and everything in between to really get the word out about your website.

Here is a short list of marketing methods that can help you get out of this “build it and they are not coming” loop –

  • PPC – Pay Per Click Marketing
  • PPV – Pay Per View Marketing
  • SEO – Search Engine Optimization
  • Article Marketing – Free Traffic
  • Media Buying
  • Social Media Marketing
  • Email Marketing

2. The “ahh my business doesn’t need an email list” concept –

Really? Your business doesn’t need an email address? Wow. Ok let me correct you where you are absolutely WRONG. It does not matter what kind of business you have online you can benefit from an email list being created, updated and utilized every single day. Email marketing is one of the very few “free marketing” techniques that gets extremely high results. If you provide your email list with great content and information they will become avid readers of your information each and every day. This allows you to market to them pretty much anything you like and they will be hyper responsive. So many people wait until 2 years, 4 years or even 5+ years down the road to setup email marketing for their business. You should do it from the ground floor! From the very start and take advantage of all it can offer your business.

Here are some good companies that provide email autoresponders:

1. Aweber -Great company. I use them daily and they provide great statistics and a easy to use interface.
2. iContact – Another great company. Their interface (in my opinion) is a bit more difficult to navigate than Aweber’s.
3. MailChip – This company isn’t near as robust as the others mentioned, however, they do have a completely FREE option available!

3. The “I know everything already” mindset –

Honestly this is probably the one that gets most Internet Marketers. Always thinking you know “everything” closes your mind off to learning new things from other people. The concept that you CAN and probably WILL learn things from other people that you don’t know is what drives industry events such as Ad Tech and Affiliate Summit. These events literally host thousands of people all looking to network and learn from each other. You can also learn from other’s by just purchasing their courses and training information on the topics they have mastered. It’s actually a great idea because you will find that most Internet Marketers have a “niche” they are great at (basically they have mastered it) but then they are just “good” at everything else in their business. Well I look for those that have mastered “niches” and simply focus on learning that niche from them and moving on to learn another from someone else. This way I can master pretty much everything and my business will explode.

These are just a few of the things that keep some Internet Marketers from having the success they want and desire. It’s just important to remember that Internet Marketing is a business and should be treated as such. You should always look to learn more, share more and make your business grow by devoting your time and energy to it as much as you can.

    Anthony,
Another great blog, I know everyone enjoys the content but doesn’t always take the time to leave a comment.

A while back in an email you sent a link to your ebook “30 Days to Rapid Mass Traffic”, do you have any other ebook links that I may have missed out on?

P.S. – “build it and they will come” was actually from Field of Dreams.

Hi Anthony: You are so right, I wonder how could I have missed all that, when you talk about it all the time. I’ve been brainstorming about a website I don’t even know how to handle, I have missed every single element that can make it succsessful. I have to admit your are so right and I am so stupid. Good point Anthony, I’ll change my plans and will start working on every method you have listed.
Awsome. I give you five stars in your input.
Is a blessing to have a Mentor that never misses a mark.

Well then I feel fortunate! I know absolutely nothing about any of this. Which is not in my favor either. I have a very long ways to go. And I have to admit I am both excited and totaly freaked out by the amount of knowledge I have to learn before I can actually begin. I know some people say don’t let that happen but ( Ya right ).

    Hi Anthoney,
Vahe is here. Thank you for the the advices, these are very helpfull.
I missed the 11/4/10 training call and I asked if I could hear the recorded session, Tnya replied to check http://www.aphlogin.com, but when I went there the sessions went up to #7 which was sometime in the summer. Is there any other page? If there is how do you go there? I emailed back to Tonya but I have not heard from her yet. Could you please advise?

    Thank you

    Vahe

Every blog is important and has great advice. It is pushing me to learn more. The marketing methods are important to succeed. The concept is a little over my head to understand and apply. I will continue to learn and study all info. I am sure without your support that you provide, it would be difficult for your customers to succeed. Your books and tapes are a great help. Thanks

I’m still early on in my learning this business and couldn’t do it without the help of the Marketing Success Academy. I feel so grateful to know that there’s an army of people including yourself to help me be successful. It’s very important to know the “should does” and the “don’t” when creating a business. Thanks for your “Got your back”.
