Understanding Facebook’s New Timeline for Pages

Author: admin Facebook Marketing Tips

There’s a good chance you’ve noticed that Facebook has changed to a new Timeline format. What you may not realize, though, is all of the changes that come with this new format. Today, I’m going to go over the changes so you’ll be able to get the most out of Facebook.

No Default Landing Pages

One of the biggest changes is users can’t use landing pages anymore. That means you can’t use “Like Gates” to get people to “Like” a page before they view it. You can still create tabs for your Facebook page using Pagemodo, Wildfire Interactive, or one of the other services, though. However, users will actually have to click on the tab since they’ll automatically go to your wall when they visit your page.

It’s important to note that the tabs are much more prominent on the new Timeline. Previously, your tabs and apps were on the left hand side of the page. They were hard to see, and most users probably ignored them. Now, though, the apps are prominently displayed with icons. These large icons can be arranged to your liking, and they really stand out to users. Because of that, you shouldn’t be too concerned about the absence of landing pages. While landing pages are gone, users will be able to visit all of your tabs easily, so you should get the same amount of traffic.

Option to Pin an Update to the Top of Your Page

While you can’t have a landing page with the new Timeline, you can still control what users see when they first visit your page. That’s because you can pin a status update to the top of the page. Once you do that, it will stay there for an entire week.

Thus, if you have a special announcement or a great offer, you can pin it to the top of the page, where it is sure to be seen.

This is easy to do. Simply create and post a status update. Then, go to the icon that looks like a pencil. Click on it and select “Pin to Top.”

Cover Photos

The new Timeline also allows users to add cover photos. A cover photo isn’t the same as the standard profile photo. Unlike the standard photos, cover photos take up the entire top of the Facebook page. That means they provide people with a great opportunity for marketing and branding.

It’s important to note that your cover photo cannot contain information about discounts or deals, prices for products or services you offer, or calls to action. Additionally, you can’t use the words “like” or “share.”

However, your photo can still be a powerful marketing tool. For example, you can use a picture of someone using your products, or post a picture of you at an industry event. The sky really is the limit when you choose your cover photo. Just remember it’s the first thing people will see when they visit your page, so be creative.

As you can see, Facebook’s new Timeline provides marketers with some exciting opportunities. Be sure to check out my special report below so you can utilize all of those features.

    Hi Anthony!
I’ve transfered my new domain name to affiliate marketers today.
Will watch your marketing videos asap.

I’m not new on facebook – my name is liefie.boyens and I’ve started to add Destiny International Incorporation, our Non-profit Organization to it as well.
Can’t wait to hear more about marketing on facebook.

Thanks for all your training videos, etc.

Thanks for the quick overview of the new FB page layout!

Another good tip is to personalize the image of your tabs. You don’t have to settle for the default image FB gives a tab, you can replace it with one of your own – another way to engage and draw your reader to that tab.
